Scott Baker wins world kayak fishing title
« on: November 01, 2011, 11:49:24 AM »
VICTORIAN Scott Baker was crowned the first Daiwa Hobie Kayak Fishing World Champion yesterday on the Hastings River.
Baker, from Mornington, saw off the challenge of 66 other keen kayak fishermen with a winning weight of 2.87kg for his catch of bream.

In great conditions, anglers from anglers from Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, USA and Australia did their best to snare the three biggest bream they could to win the event.

Event organiser Steve Fields said the competition brought all types of anglers together.

“People from all over the world with similar interests not only compete but share expertise, knowledge and skills,” Fields said.

“In the end, there is one world champion, but everyone goes home feeling better about themselves, with new friends, new skills and having had a cultural experience in a part of the world they, otherwise, may never have visited.”

The international raiders were mentored by the Australian competitors on the idiosyncrasies of bream fishing.

Thailand’s Kelvin Ng She Beng was one of the top international competitors with Singapore’s Khoo Wee Lee.

Central Coast anglers Jason Meech (2.81kg) and Kevin Winchester (2.78kg) finished second and third respectively.
