Title: top water lure reviews
Post by: marktheraider on October 21, 2011, 02:45:05 PM
the dogX junior megabass surface lure is one of the biggest and more expensive bream top water lures on the market. If you can afford there $35-$40 price tag there a must in any serious breamers tackle box

the lucky craft sammy lures are probably the go to top water lure for all comp anglers, and at around the $20 mark are priced well compared to the dogx juniors

the ecogear px55f, another good topwater lure to have with the surface bite just about to hot up

the bassday sugerpens are a good surface lure

atomic hardz k9 walker is a good option if your budget or brains dont allow to lose a $20 plus lure

ive never used this, but if dizzy borg does, then i dare say the things work

dogx jrs are a highly over rated lure yes they catch bream but there are many other lures out there for around the 20 mark that are just as good if not better, id pick sammys over dogx jrs anyday just  my 2 cents worth. :)

cheers reece

hyper, you will have to send me some samples of the zipbait  skinny pop jr hehehehehe,
i wanna get some of these but just never see em when i got $$$$ in my pocket.
I agree dogx jr are over rated, but here in north nsw, when the bream are hitting surface hard they cant resist one. In saying that they do the same with the sammys also. So considering i got 2 dogx jrs and 8 sammys, i know which one i use most :) the sammy.
Dont forget the berkley 3b range, for there price you can throw em anywere and not be scared to lose em at $12-$14 each. I have lost quite a few hehehe but they work just as good as most others

Only $2 more than Sammy's Online for the Skinny Pop Jr, Fakie Dog DS same price as the Sammy not too bad for Japanese made lures that can be fished out of the box both fitted with Owner ST-36 trebles.

i mix it up a bit twitch..twitch.....twitch........................................twitch twitch.
depends on the day i supose aye, sometimes rod tip high so it works along the surface and sometimes rod tip low so it dances in and out of the water. :) great surface lure

Top waters, gotta love em at this time of year!

So many options on the market, you can't go to far wrong with the Zipbaits range. I have a heap of ZBL tiny poppers and skinny pop Jr's in my surface tray, along with Sammy 65's, Dog X jrs, and if you really want to spend some hard earned, check out the bent minnow.

If your after a more middle of the road cost, check out the Jazz zappers, Austackle Joeys, the berkley 3b range and the hawk range. The hawk topwater's are great for throwing over racks where you are bound to lose a few.

If you want something that you can belt an absolute mile with a decent breeze behind you, check out the Atomic K9 or even the zipbaits Fakie Dog.

Thats some great lure advise, im only paying $17 for bent minnows lol dont ask how  ;D  at that price it doesn't hurt so much when a tailor takes a liking to one lol

Love the Sammy 65's aswell, it almost feels like cheating when bream like them so much

Bent minnows can be found cheaply online from oversea's sites. I try and support our local guys to help grow our sport, so i try to shy away from the other's. I'm not saying its wrong to find the cheapest option though!

Gotta love sammy's, if your after a cheaper alternative check out the Jazz zapper range.

R2S Rover 50 is another surface lure that's worth mentioning, very underrated but very effective!  ;)
