Title: New Boat only 14 months away
Post by: bbgcomputers on May 09, 2013, 02:23:59 PM
Good Afternoon everyone.
I have finally convinced the finance officer (Wife) to let me buy a new boat to replace the 3.4m Savage gull that i have been using.
I thought seeing this will probebly be the last time the boss will let me buy a nice boat i would go all out or atleast as all out at the budget will stretch to

I have narrowed it down to 2 boats that are simmilar only on water testing will split them for me.
#1 Quintrex Renegade 460 SC with 50 Etec It's quite expensive but i will be able to take it outside so i dont mind paying extra.
#2 Stacer Outlaw. New version which is almost the same as the renegade but about $4000 cheeper.

Ether boat will cost me approx $25,000 but should serve me well for years to come

you might find the 50hp isnt enough my hornet 435 had a 40hp but was rated for 50hp and once it was loaded with gear and 2 people it took a while to get on the plane and lost roughly 10-15km per hour.
i know this doesnt sound like much but i was always wishing for that extra 10hp if not more. what are the hulls rated for and are you going max rating on them? you might think the power is ok at the start but i guarantee in a few mnths of ownership you will want more. I have done this with 3 other boats that were not at max rated hp.

I would stick with quintrex yes they are more expensive but look at the resale prices they hold value more than any other brand out there. 10+ year old boats still 50-70% of original value.

cheers
dan

The hull is rated to 60hp. I'll have to have a look at the difference in cost between the 50 and the 60. by all accounts the top end difference and torque are very simmilar as the 40-60 use the same block and bore/stroke. the reviews i have read basically say that the 50 and 60 are very close through the rev range and top end you loose about 2 knots. the other thing are the etecs are lighter than the typical 4 strokes so i might not need the same hp. I'm sure that i'll be happyer with that than the 6hp pull start yamaha that i have now all corroded and nilly 20 years old.

Lucky for me i have a fair bit of time to work out exactly what i want

I too like the Renegade BBG. I cant find the outlaw, but on paper it looks to be the same boat with a different sticker. Comes out of the same factory, so why wouldnt it be? Will be looking further into these as you can by a lot of toys for 4K! Are they tricked up the same with the same level of standard features?
Am actually looking at them quite hard and weighing the pros n cons of a heavier hull.
I have to agree with yutryn. Get the maximun HP that the rig will allow. Better to have too much than not enough. You dont have to squeeze the throat out of the throttle if you dont want too but you will do all the time if you have too.

Pictorial. The Stacer outlaw has a different hull the EVO3 it is still stretch formed similar to the quintrex's but it different in nilly every way. the stacer is also not as wide as the Quintrex which is the only thing going against it at the moment. i like beamy boats.  i wont be getting final quotes for some months but i thought i would get some opinions on here. I also looked at the weight as maybe being an issue but i thought it would make it more stable in the ocean.
Basically i'm looking for an all round boat.
Family Friendly but mostly fish-able wherever i want to chuck plastics.

Maybe throw in the bluefin wildcat or tomcat if you want an all rounder
They can be a wet ride but the one I went in was 4.6m and had a 90hp on it
Went like the clappers but thought I had been for a swim when we pulled up lol

I will be having another look at the blue fins once i get a bit closer to purchase. I didn't mind the look of the barracuda and the predator. I'm not very often in a rush on the water. i would rather put around.
Plus knowing me if i went to fast i'd end up on the sand. loks like it should be about $900 between the 50 and 60hp etecs. for that i'd just get the bigger engine.

BBG, is this worth your attention at all?

Owner says he is looking at getting another  ???

Interesting that you say both the Stacer & the Quinnie are so different. I couldnt find a picture, not even on the Stacer site & all I had to go on was the features & the fact that its 3mm.

Putting 2 n 2 together I obviously have come up with 22  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[.

Weight is good in some ways, no doubt about it, but for me the problem with said, is the amount of water it will draw when trying to enter / leave shallow river mouths. Its amazing how much difference there is in getting a 3.8m tinnie out of some of my spots compared to a 4.2m. In my case, looking at a 4.7m Renagade the weight is almost double the Dory, so where I can get out and push off some of the shallower spots, dont reckon I could do that with the larger / heavier boat.

I'll be watching your progress with interest. Please keep us updated. :)

I also was worried about the extra hull weight. part of my water test that i will do before i buy will be to see what kind of draft the hulls have. i suspect that the stacer will have a shallower draft and maybe better suited to the shallows.   i must admit thoughy that even with a 4.6 fibreglass boat that a mate has we can get into about 500mm of water no problems. thats probably as shallow as i would go anyway. any shallower and i'll just jump out and pull it over.

The bluefin looks good. i'm interested in new though as i'm always getting other peoples troubles.

also i ahve a pic or 2 of the 429 stacer outlaw but nothing on the 469 at the moment. he said the layout is the same. i'll post a pic or to tonight if you like

Strange that there is a difference BBG.
I got some specs on the 469 Stacer today from the dealer. They are as good as Identical. There are some small differences, most notable one being the Stacer has a higher max hp & is 10kg heavier.
Otherwise, again I am comparing a 460 renegade & 469 Outlaw and I dont have specs for the smaller outlaw, they are the same.

Thanks i hadn't seen those picks before. they look pretty good.

The specs i have say that the stacer has a 1.97 beam compared to the renegades 2.22. that's allot of boat and i'm thinking that could give abit more stabillity 250mm difference. even the 420 renegade has a 2.06 beam.

Dose anyone think that this would make a huge difference or dose it just sound bigger?

Found out that the Stacer has the same beam as the quintrex which is great as now i'm pointing towards the stacer due to the price difference. i understand the the resale isnt as good on the stacer but i'm looking to keep the boat for a long time so resale isn't on my list of priorities

I like your way of thinking bbg on the resale no need to worry about that if your going to keep it for a long time  ;D
